Foundation Paper Pieced Cushion
In this class we will be sewing a 50cm (20”) square cushion using more advanced patchwork and quilting skills.
The sections of the cushion front are assembled using foundation paper piecing (FPP), this involves sewing over a paper pattern and enables you to create incredibly accurate layouts.
These sections are then joined using Y-seams, another useful skill which allows you to join three fabrics together at a point.
The cushion top is then quilted, an envelope back added and binding applied. Depending on how quickly the group works, it may be necessary to attach the binding at home.
This class would be a great follow up to our Introduction to Patchwork and Quilting workshop or as a skill builder for those with previous patchwork experience.
You will need to bring the following:
- 1 fat quarter of solid fabric
- 4 fat quarters of print fabric for the cushion top and binding
- 0.75m of an additional print fabric for the cushion top and backing
- 100m of thread for piecing and quilting. Feel free to bring Rayon thread for quilting if desired.
We will supply all the templates and wadding that you need.
The class includes light refreshments (cake!). We will also have a 30 minute lunch break so you may want to bring a packed lunch or there is a large Tesco next door and a cafe within Notcutts.
Your tutor for this class will be Ana Dugdale. Ana is a City and Guilds qualified tutor with extensive sewing experience particularly in the field of patchwork and quilting.
