New Yarn: Erika Knight Gossypium Cotton

The latest yarn to arrive on the shelves at Stitch Solihull is Gossypium Cotton by the super talented and entirely lovely Erika Knight. Gossypium Cotton is manufactured exclusively for Erika in the Hisar District of Haryana, India. The manufacturer is very eco-friendly and works hard to promote fair labour pratices and concentrates on the welfare and development of its employees.

Gossypium Cotton

Cotton is a great fibre for a yarn. It is soft, breathable and hypo-allergenic making it perfect for babies, people with sensitive skin and general warm weather projects.

The yarn is the first pure cotton we have stocked and I like to think we have help out for the perfect example. The yarn comes in 50g balls priced at a very reasonable £3.50. There are 100m/109 yards per ball and it knits to an approximately DK tension on 3.75-4mm needles.

There are 8 colours in the range all from the same chalky, muted palette. They are designed to work well together while being just as strong used alone.

I’m torn between Iced Gem, a perfect duck egg blue, and Pretty, a flattering pink for my favourite. Although, I also find it hard to resist a colourway called Steve!

The yarn is supported by a collection of 6 knit and crochet patterns also priced at £3.50. These are clothing and accessories for babies aged 0 - 24 months. Many of the patterns feature different styles making them excellent value for money.

There are several tops including Crumpet, a pretty short sleeve crochet cardigan and Muffin, a beginner friendly garter stitch waistcoat. All the garments use between 2 and 5 balls of yarn making them affordable to make too.

The accessories include Bubble and Squeak, a collection of hats and booties that would make a great last minute gift for a new mum. If you prefer a larger project, there are 2 crochet blankets, Rhubarb and Waffle. Even the larger Rhubarb blanket can be created for under £45.

If that’s not enough to tempt you, there are a further 3 patterns that can be downloaded for free from the Erika Knight website or you can pick up a printed copy when you buy the yarn.

Cottontail Rabbit is a simple Garter Stitch toy with embroidered features and is sure to become a much loved family member. Curly Wurly is a crochet collar for making an outfit extra special and The A to Zzz Blanket is a personalisable stocking stitch blanket.

We have also had a restock of Erika Knight Studio Linen and all colours and patterns are available now.
