The eagerly awaited mini interchangeable sock needles from Hiya Hiya have just arrived.
Hiya Hiya interchangeable needles are a fry cry from your old fashioned metal needles. They are hollow which make them lightweight and made from stainless steel which is surprisingly warm to the touch. The cables move independently of the needle preventing them from coming unscrewed while you are knitting.
Previously the smallest interchangeable tip size was 2.75mm but they are now available in 2mm, 2.25mm and 2.5mm perfect for sock knitting using the magic loop technique and other 4ply and lace projects. They have coordinating mini cables in 24”, 32” and 40” lengths.
There is also a Sock Tip Adaptor to allow you to use all your existing small Hiya Hiya Interchangeable needles with the mini cables. To tighten the join, there are rubber needle grips and a cable key which will be familiar to anyone who has used Knit Pro Interchangeable needles previously. We are more than happy to demonstrate how to tighten the needles.
The new needles are available in a set priced at £70 which includes:
- 5” length tips in 2mm, 2.25mm and 2.5mm
- 4” length tips in 2.75mm and 3mm
- Mini interchangeable cables, two at 24”, one at 32” and one at 40”
- Sock Tip Adaptor
- Needle grips and cable key
All presented in a grogeous brocade case with plenty of pockets to store all your interchangeable needle tips and cables.
The constituent items are also available individually with needle tips at £7 and cables at £5.50.
There are also new cable lengths for the small interchangeable needles - 20/22” (50/55cm) and 47/49” (120cm/125cm). This means there are now 7 possible cable lengths from 16” (40cm) to 62” (155cm) allowing a huge variety of projects to be knitted both in the round and flat.
A new yarn for this summer, Studio Linen by Erika Knight is a Double Knit yarn composed of 85% recycled rayon linen and 15% premium linen. The high percentage of recycled linen makes it super soft from the start but it will continue to get softer with wearing. It is available in a sophisticated colour palette of 8 shades, a collection of neutrals and chalky solids.
The yarn costs £6 per 50g skein which each contain approximately 120m/131yds. The recommended needle size is 3.75-4mm giving a tension of 21-22 stitches and 28-30 rows per 10cm.
There is great pattern support in the form of 9 ladies cardigans and tops. These are stunning designs making the most of the delicate drape of linen fabric. Many are beginner friendly with simple shaping and style letting the yarn do the work.
The patterns are priced at £4.50 each. The yarn cost per garment starts at just £24 for Positano in a size small or medium making them affordable luxury. My favourites are Siena, a t-shirt using different needle sized to add interest to the stocking stitch fabric and Palermo, a simple short sleeved cardigan.
We have limited stocks of Studio Linen available now. We are also able to preorder yarn for you for delivery at the end of July. Just let us know what you would like, we will order it and you can pay in installments or when the yarn is delivered.
Until the end of June we will have several sample garments from the collection on display. This is the perfect opportunity to see and feel the yarn for yourself. We have samples of Siena, Palermo and Positano which you are welcome to admire and try on.
