Following many requests we now stock a range of cross stitch kits perfect for introducing children to this traditional craft that is currently enjoying huge popularity. The kits are designed by Fat Cat Cross Stitch and come in three different levels of difficulty depending on the age and confidence of the person taking part. Not just for children, the kits would be a great introduction to cross stitch for any age.
The simplest kits are the Easy Peasy range which are great as a cross stitch taster for small children. They are worked on 6 count binca with tapestry wool and a blunt needle.
The design is printed in full colour on A4 paper with only full cross stitches to be worked. This promotes counting and spacial awareness when working the design. With images from tractors to turtles in bright eye catching colours, there’s bound to be one that appeals.
The next step is the Sew Simple range which maintain the quirky designs with large blocks of bright colour in full cross stitch for ease of working. These are worked on 11 count aida with stranded cotton and so require a greater level of manual dexterity and a slightly longer attention span.
The design is printed in full colour on A4 paper but also starts to introduce the concept of using symbols for each colour, an essential skill for more complicated projects.
The final range of kits are an introduction to Blackwork, a form of embroidery dating from before 1500 that traditionally used black thread to stitch outline designs. These kits bring it right up to date with bright colours and fun patterns.
As with the Sew Simple kits, they are worked on 11 count aida using stranded cotton with a full colour chart to work from.
I’m going to be stitching up some samples over the next week or so. Why not pop in and take a look?
